Critical Reflection

When creating the website I focused on creating a multimodal learning sequence that gives students an opporutnity to explore the creation of narratives through an engaging way by using brickfilms as the theme. In order to make it engaging for students lesson sequences are presented as challenges.

The challenges are focused on giving students stimulus to create brickfilms. The challenges also are based upon recount and narrative text types. By basing the challenges on text types, students are able use prior knowledge to construct and develop ideas. It will also enhance their understanding of text types and how to apply those understandings to a new mode of literacy.

The learning sequences are structured and designed so that they give structure to students creation. However, students are to put their own intepretation on the challenges and will create vastly different brickfilms. This is due to the use of open assessment. The open assessent allows students to explore techniques and create brickfilms that are creatice and engaging for an audience. The created brickfilms are assessed on the techniques and application of text type knowledge rather than content. This allows for students to bring in their home discourse, creating a third space that combines school and home contexts.

The 'Your Space' and 'Chatroom' areas of the website were created with the aim of taking the website and making it into an interactive creative learning space. A creative learning space should encourage students to share ideas with each other and give opportuinities for a live discussion of ideas. This is achieved through the 'Chatroom' section of this website. The 'Your Space' section is there to provide students with a way to share their creations with classmates or other vistors of the site. I have created an example page, using myself, to show how students would share and show off their creations.

I have used feedback given from Shireen, Emma, and Gavin to further tweak and enhance my learning sequence and learning space. In their feedback they identified that 'The Chatroom' and 'Your Space' areas of the website were a great way to create an interactive learning space. Another strength identified was how easy, focused, and simple the website was in its creation. I was very happy with their feedback as t gave me direction on areas that I could improve my learning space for the future.
